Bar hopping Fiji style

Never one to overlook a beach bar opportunity, paramotoring photographer Jeff Hamann finds himself right at home in the beautiful Mamanuca Islands

We didn’t visit any pubs, taverns or night clubs in Fiji, but we did visit our share of bars. In fact, we landed on three different sand bars in the Mamanuca Islands group on the west side of Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu. We also launched from two different sand and cobble bars on the Sigatoka River on the south side of Viti Levu. 

On paper, Viti Levu, Fiji does not appear to be a great paramotoring destination. It is battered by strong easterly trade winds and there are very few beaches on the east coast to fly from. But the west side of the island is often in a nice wind shadow that looked interesting (on paper). How high could we go without getting into the mixing zone was the question?
