England’s Southern Club is hosting the inaugural Southern Foot or Fly XC competition during July and August this year.
The competition challenges pilots to link all eight of the Southern Club’s flying sites by flying and hiking only, a distance of 65km by air or 85km on foot.
Organisers say there will be prizes available across categories “catering for novices and experts alike”.
One of the organisers, James Hope-Lang, said: “This year the Southern Club took over running the competition from Flybubble Paragliding, who created the original event, and are promoting it as part of their Club Coaching program to encourage pilots to fly XC.”
He added: “Everyone is welcome, there are no entry fees, though BHPA membership is mandatory and you will need to be a Southern member or pay the day membership of £5.”
Details of the route, the rules and the prizes as well as warm-up events are on the club’s website at www.shgc.org.uk or at the Southern Foot or Fly Facebook page.
