Invitation to celebrate FAI International Day of Air Sports
The aim is to "open the skies to new audiences"
25 August, 2026, by Cross CountryThe FAI is inviting the community to get involved and celebrate the very first International Day of Air Sports on 14 October 2026.
Led by the FAI, the World Air Sports Federation, this annual celebration aims to bring together air sports enthusiasts around the world to “showcase the excitement, diversity and accessibility of flying”.
Activities will centre on 14 October 2026. Events, demonstrations and digital content will showcase the diversity, accessibility and excellence of air sports, engaging audiences beyond the existing community. The FAI will also lead a dedicated campaign during the 120th FAI General Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland that same week.
Pilots are being encouraged to organise their own events and share the word via #InternationalDayofAirSports and #AirSportsDay. They are inviting people to organise demonstrations and exhibitions in their local communities or consider open days with educational workshops and presentations, school and youth activities, club gatherings as well as online events.
The FAI says the hope is for members and partners to “to share their passion and open the skies to new audiences”.

The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) – The World Air Sports Federation, was founded in 1905. It is a non-governmental and non-profit making international organisation with the basic aim of furthering aeronautical and astronautical activities worldwide, ratifying world and continental records and coordinating the organisation of international competitions. It sets the rules and oversees the certification of records in paragliding and hang-gliding as well as establishes the rules for competition – FAI Cat 1 and Cat 2 – and the Sporting Code that governs the sport.
