The Ghana Paragliding Festival has become an integral part of the annual Easter celebrations at Nkawkaw since the first one in 2005, and this year it takes place from April 2-5 2010.
Organised by Walter Neser, the festival attracts both Ghanaians and foreigners for “spectacular aerial fun, ceremony and music”.
Pilots from all over the world are encouraged to come and enjoy the relaxed flying – consistent large and mild thermals are described – as well as the excited party atmosphere on launch: Ghanaians love their music, and live musicians on launch also means plenty of dancing.
Tandem pilots are invited to help if they can, to offer local Ghanaian spectators a taste of free flight, something they are unlikely to experience elsewhere.
The festival helps the local economy (taxi drivers, hotel owners, food vendors and souvenir sellers etc benefit). This year organisers asking seeking donations of $50 to sponsor a free-flight for a local spectator, which will be used to help with the costs of participating tandem pilots.
