In the latest issue of Cross Country magazine Andy Pag goes for a spin on the G-Force Trainer – a fairground like device that spins you round at speed that is designed to help you understand and deal with high-G situations in paragliding.
He writes:
As the motor spins up again, every muscle I have is tight, braced as if I’m about to impact. I’m spitting air out, forcing it all out to make sure there’s space to replace it with fresh lungfuls, as we accelerate up to 4G.
I’m pinned to the harness focusing on the techniques and consciously monitoring my vision for signs of tunnelling. The plan is to hold it for a couple of revolutions and then pull the reserve.
My 80kg bodymass is now loading my muscles with over 300kg. I can just about control my hand’s descent to the reserve handle and pull the pins. This is my limit…
