SkyAds, the classifieds site for used gear run by Cross Country Magazine, has made some changes. From 1 September 2016 we are charging users a nominal fee of £0.50 to place an advert – with all the money raised going to the Cloudbase Foundation.
Cross Country editor Ed Ewing explained:
“SkyAds has always been run by the same people as Cross Country magazine as a free site and a service to the pilot community.
“We’d like to keep the site open to all but in recent months we’ve been frustrated by spammers and scammers. We’d like to move the site forward in the same spirit it was founded, so we have decided to charge a nominal fee for each advert placed.
“This is £0.50 per advert. We are donating all of that money to the Cloudbase Foundation, which is a charity that works in the places we fly. All the money (100%) will go directly to the charity.
“We expect this will put off most spammers – and legitimate advertisers and buyers will benefit.”
