Cuba’s Eastern Championship cross country paragliding competition takes place in Pilón in the Granma province of Cuba, from 18 – 24 July 2011.
It is being organised in conjunction with the Cuban free flight organisation, to promote free flying in the area. Up to five pilots from each of six Cuban provinces will compete against one another around a course involving turnpoints.
Turnpoints will be validated by what most European pilots would consider the old-fashioned method of photographing them: Cuban pilots have only four useable GPS devices between them, according to Chris Arnu who sent us the information on the event. He adds, if anyone has any still-functioning GPS devices or smartphones with GPS functionality, complete with cables, that they no longer require, they could easily be found new homes with Cuban pilots.
If you would like to donate a unit, please post it to Chris Arnu at Im Ludlein 6, 75181 Pforzheim, Deutschland.
