The British Paragliding Competitions committee have introduced a new event for 2018, the All Comers Open, which is an FAI cat 2 learning competition.
It’s aimed at pilots who have flown at least one competition before, and will take place at Feltre, Italy, from 21-28 July 2018.
Brett Janaway is meet director, and the competition tasks, which will be “challenging enough for the most accomplished pilots” will be backed up by briefings and debriefs, events and talks.
“The All Comers Open will attract PWC qualification letters and we therefore hope it will appeal to our young BPRA crew and their fellow pilots from other Euro nations, looking for a fun comp where they may also qualify for that all important first PWC season”.
Registration opens at 09:00 GMT on 3 February 2018, and organisers say:
“The approved pilot list will be ordered by time/date of registration and pilots will be invited to pay in ranked order. Registration for the competition will open on 3rd February 2018 and pilots will be invited to pay beginning 17th February”.
The Hang Gliding Pre-Worlds 2018 will be based in Tolmezzo, Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the northeast of Italy and will run from 27 July until 4 August.
“The competition flying area will develop above extremely different and vast areas: from the sea to the Dolomites, crossing the flatlands, the Alps and the Prealps. The main competition region will be Friuli Venezia Giulia, but pilots could fly also above some other regions and countries: Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Slovenia and Austria“.

XCBusa is an annual paragliding competition that has been run by the Busa Flying Team in the Lake Garda area of Italy since 2014.
Scores take into account three flights. These can be flown any time between February and October but must meet specific criteria. Two must be declared before the flight is flown, and a third can be declared within 24 hours afterwards. The specific criteria can be studied on XCbusa.com.
There are always good prizes on offer, and this year the first prize is a Woody Valley GTO Light harness.
The Montegrappa Trophy competition takes place at Borso del Grappa in north-east Italy over the Easter weekend, 18-22 April 2019.
There are places for up to 150 pilots in the competition, which is also a round of the Italian Nationals 2019. Alongside the competition is a season-opening trade show – come and see the current lines of some of the industry’s biggest names.
The FAI category 2 competition takes place in Meduno, north-east Italy, in an area well known to European pilots.
There will be Class 1, Class 5 and Sports Class categories.
2019 is a Red Bull X-Alps Year! The ninth edition kicks off with the Prologue on 13 June, when all athletes race around a course, aiming to win one of three available extra night passes.
The race itself starts on 16 June. 32 athletes will be taking part, including five-times winner Chrigel Maurer (SUI1) and Romanian running man Toma Coconea who hasn’t missed a single race. Fourteen of the athletes to line up at the start are rookies, including the two female participants, Kinga Mastalerz (NZL2) and Dominika Kasieczko (POL).
The exact route for the 2019 event will be announced in March, and thousands will be following the athletes’ progress day and night via the live tracking and media updates.
The FAI World Hang Gliding Championship takes place every two years, and 2019 is a Championship year! The 22nd event will take place from 12-27 July 2019 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy.
Organisers say tasks will explore far and wide, and may well take pilots across borders into Slovenia and Austria.
The Italian Open / Monte Cucco International trophy takes place in Sigillo, Italy from 10-18 August 2019, and is to be a test event for the 2020 European Class 1 Championships.
The flying arena is the Alta Valle del Chiascio and the mountain ridges of the Monte Cucco Massif in Sigillo, a place that has hosted numerous high-level hang gliding competitions before.
The entry fee includes a T-shirt, dinner and packed lunches but pilots need to organise their own lifts to launch and retrieves. The organisation can provide contact details for shuttle drivers if necessary.
