A second French Pre-PWC for 2018 is to be held in the Pyrenees in June 2018, hosted by Pôle Espoir Vol Libre.
The site of Targassonne, near Font-Romeu, is where a host of top French pilots (Charles Cazaux, Laurie Genovese, Jérémie Lager, Maxime Pinot, Méryl Delferrière, Simon Pellissier … ) learned to fly.
Base camp will be L’enclave campsite in the town of Estavar.

The sixth edition of the Airtour hike-and-fly competition will take place from 9-17 June 2018, starting as always at St Hilaire du Touvet in the French Alps.
This year for the first time pilots can choose to fly in Adventure or Competition categories, tackling three different tasks of increasing difficulty, graded green, blue and red, like ski pistes. In all, the course covers over 300km through the Alps.
Pilots taking part in the Adventure category are not ranked, though they are tracked and their positions displayed on the website as with the competition pilots. They follow the green, blue and red courses in order. Adventure-category pilots can race alone or teams, and pilot and supporter can alternate. Pilots need an IPPI 5 rating and some cross-country experience.
In the Race category, pilots follow the green, blue and red courses in order, and first to goal wins the race. Pilots need an IPPI 5 rating and either competition experience or proof of significant cross-country flights in order to be selected.
Green: small Chatreuse tour with optional turnpoint la Sure
Blue: loop to the south around Trieves, Devoluy, Le Buech, le Vercors and an optional turnpoint at Aspres sur Buech
Red: loop in the heart of the French Alps with Mont Blanc as an optional turnpoint

The 2018 Naviter Open will take place at St Jean Montclar in southern France from 24 – 30 June.
The event is an FAI 2 competition, aimed at pilots wishing to learn the art of competition flying. Organisers say, “Pilots love the fun and friendly atmosphere, the in-depth daily briefings and the easy access to some of the best pilots in the world”.

The 13th Ozone Chabre Open will take place from 30th June to 6th July 2018.
The friendly, low-stress competition welcomes experienced pilots who are new to comps and emphasises safe, achievable tasks.
There are prizes for Fun, Recreation and Sport categories, determined by wing aspect ratio and certification. Only EN A, B and C wings are allowed in this competition – no EN-Ds this year. There are also separate prizes for women and rookies.
Team flying is strongly encouraged, ideally teams with four pilots of mixed abilities and glider ratings, and those from clubs and schools. “We especially welcome those where the team leaders are willing to help less competition-savvy members, with advice and guidance”, say organisers.
In addition to the flying, the comp has a full programme of activities including talks and lectures, briefings and debriefings by meet director Jocky Sanderson, and of course the legendary Ribiers paella/pizza evening.
The entry fee is €270 euros, although Ozone sponsors pilots flying Ozone wings giving each a €20 discount. The fee includes seven potential flying days with transport and retrieves, live tracking, T-shirt, talks and de-briefs, two meals and the Ozone party. For family and friends, there will be a special entry ticket to cover all the extra events around the competition, and a T-shirt. All registered pilots will be entered into a draw for great prizes including a brand new Ozone wing.
The Ozone Chabre Open is organised by the Laragne-based club, Chabre Vol Libre, with support from Ozone, local and regional authorities, local businesses, and Cross Country Magazine.
The Open Santiago 2018 FAI cat 2 paragliding competition will take place from 20-25 November 2018.
“Welcome to the most exciting and challenging competition of the Paragliding in Chile to be held in Santiago and its surroundings of the Andes, sharing with condors and excellent flight conditions with thermal up to +8 that allow us to reach 100 km of straight flight or FAI triangles up to 70 km and more.”

This is the second edition of this “new kind of XC paragliding competition”, where pilots choose their own course and fly as far as they can on whatever glider they have. A handicap scoring system takes glider level into account.
The comp is the brainchild of Marko Hrgetic, who wanted to promote competition flying where pilots’ real XC skills are tested, and where it is not the pilot on the hottest wing who takes the shortest line, who wins.
Pilots fly in teams and are scored individually as well as contributing to their team’s score. Scoring takes into account distance flown and average speed, weighted by glider category. (The formula is explained on the competition rules page, here).
Live trackers are provided by the organisation, and there will be lectures in the evenings.
