The 2020 Forbes Flatlands Hang Gliding Championship 2020 takes place at the Bill Moyes International Airport at the beginning of January.
A practice day on 3 January will be followed by eight competition days starting 4 January.
Launch is by aerotow (the aerotow is organised by Mr Bill Moyes himself), so pilots must be aerotow qualified and bring their own tow release and bridle. HGFA membership is compulsory.
The entry fee is $350 before 7 November, $400 before 7 December, $450 at registration. An aerotow feee of $450 covers unlimited tows and 10 days’ club and site fees.

The New Zealand Hang Gliding Nationals are to be held at Murchison on New Zealand’s South Island, from 23 January – 1 February 2020.
It’s the same site they used last year, when pilots enjoyed “a phenomenal week of flying with five tasks flown”. It offers 360-degree take-offs and is situated “bang in the middle” of the east and west coasts. Easy landings at the foot of the mountain and plenty of good out-landing opportunities mean the site lends itself well to competitions.
The Paradise Airports Nationals is a flatlands hang gliding competition that will be held at Wilotree Park in Florida from 12 April 2020, a week before the Worlds.
Davis Straub is meet director. There will be practice tasks on 10 and 11 April, and Open, Sport, Swift, and Rigid wing classes.
It’s an aerotow competition, and there is a $400 towing fee in addition to the competition entry fee.
This is a CIVL category 2 competition set up for Class 1 Open pilots. Sport Class pilots who can’t qualify for the Worlds can register also as well as any Sport Class pilots flying in the Worlds. Women, Rigid and Swift class pilots flying in the Worlds looking to practice in advance of the Worlds are also welcome.

The hang gliding World Championships is all set for 19 April – 1 May 2020 at Wilotree Park in Groveland, Florida.

The dates to note for this year’s Super Paragliding Testival are 11 – 14 June 2020.
Pilots are invited to put the dates in the diary then come along and test wings and harnesses (solo only – no tandem flights allowed at the event).
The ski lift that goes to launch is within easy walk of the landing field where the manufacturers’ stands will be set up. It’s also home to the famous Fliegerbar that will be serving cold beer and weisswurst (white sausage). Choose what you want to demo, head up the lift then fly from the north-facing mountain slope, known for its gentle thermals.
One of the world’s biggest paramotor fly-ins, the Mondiale Air Paramotor, will take place 19-21 June 2019 in Blois, France.
Close to Paris, the fly-in is expected to attract hundreds of paramotor pilots from across Europe and further afield.
The Mondiale takes place every two years.
The first FAI Pan-American Championships and 2020 Pan-Americans are to be held at Big Spring, Texas from 2-14 August 2020.
The site is renowned for big tasks, smooth thermals, unrestricted landing areas, easy retrieval on multiple roads and consistent cu’s. The air-conditioned head quarters, hangar for setup, free water and ice cream will make life so much easier and more pleasant!
The comp will be live tracked, with Flymaster trackers provided.
The Championships are a USHPA and CIVL sanctioned Category 1 competition; USHPA NTSS and CIVL WPRS points will be awarded.
The Pan-Americans are Category 2 sanctioned; USHPA NTSS and CIVL WPRS points will be awarded.
The Pan American Championships is an aerotow hang gliding competition set to take place in Big Spring, Texas – billed by organisers as “the finest cross-country hang gliding competition site in the World” – in August 2020.
Organisers say Big Spring is synonymous with big tasks, smooth thermals, unrestricted landing areas, easy retrieves, consistent 1pm cumulus development, air-conditioned HQ, a hangar for set-up and free water and ice cream. And records, of course.
Pilots must be at least temporary USHPA members to take part in the competition, and must hold the equivalent of IPPI5 rating, and be aerotow proficient.
Entry fees are $550 per pilot plus tow fees of $900 (for 11 – 12 days).
