Airwave are sponsoring the Airwave Club Challenge in the UK for 2008.
This is a friendly club level competition which takes place as a series of weekend events throughout the year. Orginally known as the Airwave Challenge in the 1990s, Airwave has again put its money where its mouth is and is sponsoring this friendly event.
Local clubs propose a competition and the power of the web allows other clubs to liaise easily to meet at a local hill. Then tasks are set. This is usually open cross country flying where pilots will try to catch thermals and fly as many kilometers as possible.
It provides a great forum for up and coming pilots to learn skills from more experienced pilots. Many pilots who are keen to learn have used the competition series as a springboard to greater things. Many others just enjoy the friendly nature of inter club rivalry.
Whatever their motivation they enjoy great weekends away with their flying buddies, doing what they love best. The spirit of competition adds spice to the sport, and leads to the top six clubs winning a place in the finals in August, this year to be held on the top UK site, the Long Mynd.
We are all eagerly anticipating the start of the season, which will kick off on the Easter weekend, weather permitting with a round based in South East Wales.
