Ozone have announced the forthcoming release of the much-anticipated Zeno. The two-liner fits in between the CCC-class Enzo, and the EN-D Mantra series of wings in their range.
Hugh Miller made the sneak-preview video of a prototype being flown by Russ Ogden during the North South Cup in the UK in May.
The Zeno is a sort of comp pilots’ beginner two-liner wing. Ozone say it has very nice handling throughout the weight range and is very comfortable to fly in active air. They say that pilots who are ready to step up from their M6 will find this to be an exhilarating but not overwhelming ride.
The Zeno has an aspect ratio of 6.95 (compare this to 7.55 for the Enzo 2 and 6.9 for the Mantra M6), and a profile that has been evolved from the Enzo 3 development project.
Ozone say the line drag of the first size tested is the lowest they have ever measured on any wing – proto or production model – including the Enzo 2 (they quote 12% less). New skin shaping has meant a very low-drag profile and almost wrinkle-fee sail.
Performance-wise they say it has a higher top speed at the same in-flight weight than the Enzo 2, and at least the same glide ratio.
The wing has 78 cells, and two-line risers with a 15cm speed range limiter strap. The B-risers have wooden handles for rear-riser control, which is very effective, Ozone say.
